District should inform
parents about options
I don't understand why there is a resistance to charter schools. Charter schools, like public schools, will have their pros and cons, but we need to inform parents of the different options available to them so they can decide what is best.
There is a new charter public high school opening in the fall of 2006 in Campbell. It is a great opportunity to have our eighth-grade students be a part of a small school environment. The new high school is Leadership Public Schools-Campbell. As a parent of two middle school students, being informed about this school is just as important as learning about Westmont and Del Mar high schools.
We, parents of eighth-grade students in the Campbell Union School District, will be making a very important decision soon: where our children attend high school next fall. And we, as parents, need to be as fully and completely informed as possible.
There is a resistance by the Campbell Union School District to having this charter school go into the three middle schools in the district to inform parents about its opening in the fall of 2006.
It is a public school, and the public needs to know that there are alternatives to the traditional route of progression for students transitioning from middle to high school.
CUSD should exercise its power to inform, so that parents can exercise their power to choose.
